Our opening sequence represents a few social groups such as females, police and criminals.
Females: Mary Shaw (character)
The main way in which females are represented in the opening sequence is vulnerable. Our female in the opening sequence (Mary Shaw) comes across as very vulnerable. The main way in which she is represented as vulnerable is throughout throughout the opening sequence through the use of miss en scene. The characters consume relates specifically to how she is represented, an item of costume she is using is a white shirt. The conventions of white are innocence and purity in this case, so by using a young female and a consideration into the characters costume it allowed the audience to understand what kind of character she is and a sleigh insight of her personality.
Police:
The way in which the police are presented is evil and quite mysterious mainly due to the low key lighting used to present the police. The low key lighting allowed the presentation of a dark personality. We done this as it was suitable to show the difference in personality between the policeman and the female in our opening sequence. The darkness allows the audience to understand that he is a suspicious person.
Criminal:
The way a criminal is presented in the opening sequence is very obstructed as we never get an actual look of his full face and this helps to add a lot of mystery and leaves a cliff hanger as to whether the police man is the man chasing her as he is also shown with quite obscurity. This builds extreme tension throughout the scenes and it a great way to keep the audience interested and wanting to find out more.
