Question 7 - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Question 6 - What have you leart about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Technologies which are new to me: Apple Mac, Adobe Premier, Nikon camera

In the creation of my research and the planning blog, i had to understand how to embed links onto blogger therefore youtube was used. Throughout out opening sequence various technologies were used. A technology we used a lot and was crucial in order to create our opening sequence was a Nikon camera. The was a lot of complexity to this camera and there was a lot to be learnt. Before being introduced to the many new things i was able to do with the camera i had a rather good understanding of what the camera was able to do as i own this camera. I learnt how to manually focus the camera which came across as a very important aspect to our opening sequence as there were some things that the camera couldn't automatically focus on therefor the manual way of doing it was needed to be used. I also learnt how to use the camera much more efficiently with all the mini setting on the top of it that it was able to be switched to, to enhance the way things are done with the camera.

Another piece of technology used in the making of the opening sequence was the apple mac computer. Adobe premier was a video editing software that we used which was extremely crucial in the making of our opening sequence. At first i didn't have a clue in how to use this, but with the continuous use of this technology it allowed me to develop my skills frequently. Examples of what i learnt was learning how to cut clips from the start and the end of them, i learnt how to put opening and closing effects, i learn how to put titles in place, i learnt how to render all of my work, change the brightness, put pictures and blank screens into it, how to embed a video clip of our production company, how to change the levels of volume in our background music, how to unlink clips to their sound, how to change the opacity levels and many more skills.

A technology which allowed me to display my work in a creative way was Adobe Premier. This is because at one point i changed the opacity levels in order to show a slight shade of another scene to play at the same time as another one. This enabled me to show of some of the new editing skills that i had developed and learnt whilst in the making of the opening sequence. The example of this is as presented below.

A technology which needed careful use was the camera due to very sensitive aspects to it which could have possible been damaged such as the lens. We had to remove the camera off of the tripod every time we was to manoeuvre just incase the camera was to fall off of the tripod. Several times we had to use the camera again due to the fact that a shot might not have looked how we wanted it to, or if it was not focused when we uploaded it, then we would have to re shoot it to make it the perfect shot. The editing was also changed and re done many times due to the thought of improvement, something was not liked, there was a better way of presenting something.

Question 5 - How did you attract/address the audience?

For our audience research we had a good feedback and it relates and was similar to what we were planning to do in several aspects. A main aspect that the people we asked requested to expect would have been a dark atmosphere, the location could possible me woods. This was great feedback as we were able to incorporate some of the specific features that the people we asked wanted. The way in which we intended to attract the audience with the cross cutting was successful as it kept the audience engaged. The way in which we wanted to present everything in our opening sequence was also successful as it was recognised by the people who watched our target audience. Our audience told us that they would go to see it, a reason for this is that they mainly wanted an understanding of what the criminal had to do with the police officer in relation to the exact same ring that they had. The way in which we presented Mary Shaw went very well as with the replies we got, it shows that the way we wanted to portray her was successful as our audience recognised how she was portrayed throughout the opening sequence.

Question 2 - How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our opening sequence represents a few social groups such as females, police and criminals.

Females: Mary Shaw (character)
The main way in which females are represented in the opening sequence is vulnerable. Our female in the opening sequence (Mary Shaw) comes across as very vulnerable. The main way in which she is represented as vulnerable is throughout throughout the opening sequence through the use of miss en scene. The characters consume relates specifically to how she is represented, an item of costume she is using is a white shirt. The conventions of white are innocence and purity in this case, so by using a young female and a consideration into the characters costume it allowed the audience to understand what kind of character she is and a sleigh insight of her personality.

Police:
The way in which the police are presented is evil and quite mysterious mainly due to the low key lighting used to present the police. The low key lighting allowed the presentation of a dark personality. We done this as it was suitable to show the difference in personality between the policeman and the female in our opening sequence. The darkness allows the audience to understand that he is a suspicious person.

Criminal:
The way a criminal is presented in the opening sequence is very obstructed as we never get an actual look of his full face and this helps to add a lot of mystery and leaves a cliff hanger as to whether the police man is the man chasing her as he is also shown with quite obscurity. This builds extreme tension throughout the scenes and it a great way to keep the audience interested and wanting to find out more.

Question 3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your product and why?

1. A distributor is a company or individual which is responsible for the marketing of the film. A production company handles the budgeting, scheduling and the scripting for the film, it also is responsible for the fundraising through any source of money such as a private investor, a partner or a parent company.

2.
What is the genre of your film? Horror
What is the target audience of your film?
What is the budget for your film?
How will your film be released? Worldwide
What is the title of your film? The Ritual
What is the certification of your film? Netflix

3. Our film distributor is Lionsgate they distribute horror films, family films, action films. Their films would normally have a multi million budget and maybe possibly even more with the extremely big films. Lionsgate is a big distributor. Their films are very successful and are big in the film industry. They do adverts to advertise their film trailers, their trailers are also on their website and also on youtube. They out posters up on the side of busses and on billboards. The audience they target is dependant on the genre and the kind of audience they air particularly aiming the film at.

11 films that Lionsgate distributed that are the same genre of my film.
This demostrates that our distributor is an ideal choice as they are very keen on horror movies as they have done series of them such as Saw.

The name of our production company is 'Lost Productions'. This embodies the ethos of our company as lost productions is presented in red and white with a blooded hand. It allows the audience to understand that it is a production company which products the horror films.

Q1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Fast Paced Editing - We used fast paced editing as it was a great and quick way to add dramatic tension within the audience. An example of the fast paced editing which i liked and influenced me to put it into our opening sequence was in the trailer 'Shank

Shot reverse shot - We used shot reverse shots of the police man talking to the victim as it allows the audience to see both of the characters and it shows the current persons expressions whilst they are speaking. What inspired me to include this was i found the interviewing.

Extreme close up - We used an extreme close up as it allows our attacker to remain very obscure to the viewers vision. It helps to built tension it it allows the audience to wonder why the person is presented in this way.

Titles - We used a specific range of titles as they are a specific convention that you would find in an opening sequence. The reason for using titles was to enable tot audience to see everyone involved in the making of the film as some members of the audience are interested in them.

This is the distribution company we used, distribution companies are shown as it shows the audience which company was invalided in the marketing of the film etc.
